Book Signing Announcement:
America's Wars on Film
16 September, 2008, 5:30-7:30pm
Stillwater's Hastings Bookstore
(Hall of Fame & Main Street, across from the Perkins Restaurant)
Veterans will be interested in a book event coming up. Peter C. Rollins, Emeritus Professor, OSU, will conduct a book signing at the Hastings Bookstore in Stillwater after working hours on Tuesday, September 16.
The Stillwater News-Press will carry a story about the book, entitled WHY WE FOUGHT: AMERICA’S WARS AS FILM AND HISTORY and its themes; the story should appear on Sunday, September 14 just prior to this event. (The book is an anthology covering Hollywood’s treatment of America’s wars from the Revolution to the war in Iraq.)
There is also a 30-min radio interview with Rollins at the website for WLUW-FM, Chicago as part of a series entitled “Under Surveillance.” The University of Kentucky Press website describes the book in detail.
Dr. Rollins served as a platoon commander in the U.S Marines during the Vietnam conflict. He later received his Ph.D. at Harvard University and went on to a career in teaching and research at OSU in Stillwater.
During his academic years, he made two documentaries about press bias during the Vietnam war, available through Accuracy in Media.
Stillwater veterans are urged to attend the book signing and to pick up a flyer about a series of sessions about America’s wars on film. These session will follow this public event and will be of interest to most veterans and many others concerned about the relationship of film to public perceptions.
